North Vancouver School District
Volunteer Information

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Capilano Elementary!

Before volunteering in any role, all volunteers must complete the following:
  • Part I – Volunteer Application Package --> Submit completed forms to the Capilano School Office.
  • Part II – Police Information Check (PIC) --> Order your PIC at the RCMP Detatchment and deliver the paper copy PIC to NVSD Human Resources.
  • Notify the school --> After submitting your PIC and all forms, email the supervising teacher and the school office.
Volunteers who will be driving students must also complete:
  • Part III – Volunteer Driver Package --> Submit completed forms and supporting documents to the Capilano School Office.
Please allow 1–3 weeks for PIC processing, and submit all requirements at least one week before your intended volunteer date. Detailed instructions for each step are provided below.

PART I: VOLUNTEER APPLICATION PACKAGE - valid for one school year at Capilano
These forms can be picked up at the school office or downloaded and printed. Please submit completed forms at the Capilano office.

PART II - POLICE INFORMATION CHECK (PIC) - valid for five years from submission date with NVSD Human Resources.
Please carefully follow the instructions below -- DO NOT submit the PIC to the Capilano School office.

Step 1. Apply for your PIC at your local RCMP station. Please bring two pieces of government issued ID (one with a photo), proof of address, and printed copies of the forms and documents listed below:

The North Vancouver RCMP is located at 147 14th Street East, North Vancouver BC, V7L 2N4.

Step 2. The RCMP will process your PIC and give you a paper copy in a sealed envelope. Please write "Capilano Elementary" on the envelope or on the PIC. Submit the envelope, in-person, to NVSD Human Resources:

The NVSD Human Resources department is located on the 2nd Floor at 2121 Lonsdale Avenue, North Vancouver BC, V7M 2K6. There is visitor parking which can be entered via 21st Street. Hours of operation are: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm. β€‹

Step 3. Email the supervising teacher and the school office (capilano@sd44.ca) to let them know that your PIC has been submitted. The NVSD HR department will notify the school office when your PIC has cleared, and the supervising teacher will confirm with the office that applications are complete before volunteer service begins.

Please note that PIC clearance can take 1-3 weeks, so you should apply well in advance of your planned volunteering.

After you have submitted your PIC to HR and your application to the school office, you may direct any follow-up questions or requests for confirmation to the supervising teacher.

PART III: VOLUNTEER DRIVER PACKAGE (OPTIONAL)
Complete and submit the following documents to the school office. Note: volunteer drivers must also have a PIC and current volunteer application on file.

After delivering all the documents, email the supervising teacher to let them know that your volunteer driver application has been submitted.
